If you use Tor Browser, Tails, or Whonix, finding an AI chatbot that actually works without jumping through hoops is surprisingly difficult. Most platforms either block Tor exit nodes outright or require you to sign in, which defeats the purpose of using Tor in the first place. Duck.ai is one of the only platforms that works reliably over Tor with no account required.
Duck.ai is built by DuckDuckGo, a company with a long track record of putting user privacy first. Their core principle is that they do not track you, store your search history, or build a profile on you, and that same philosophy carries over to Duck.ai. All conversations are anonymous and not linked to any identity. Being backed by a well-established company also means this is not some side project that will disappear overnight, which is a real concern with smaller privacy-focused tools.
What also stands out is the speed. Given how slow Tor can be for general browsing, Duck.ai is surprisingly fast. Responses come through quickly even over a Tor circuit, which is not something you can say about most AI platforms.
The models on offer are not the best available, but there is a decent selection. You get access to GPT-5 mini, GPT-4o mini, gpt-oss 120B, Llama 4 Scout, Claude Haiku 4.5, and Mistral Small 3. These are not frontier models, but for most use cases they are more than sufficient. The tradeoff is worth it: no account, no email, no IP exposure, and it just works.
