I love politicians and can't stand how much people hate on them while they are doing a selfless act for a country that they love.
Smartest: most of them have IV league degrees, advanced degrees, careers were they were making millions of dollars. Not to mention they won a super competitive election. They are wayyyyyy smarter than the average American. Have you seen the way they prosecute people during a hearing. Don't flatter yourself and think you could do that. They are master communicators. Not to mention they navigate complex legal issues and complex negotiations with the other side.
Hard working: they work like 16 hour days and sleep on the couch in their office. Most Americans aren't doing that.
Heavily underpaid: this one grinds my gears the most. Being the President is like being the CEO of a company bigger than Apple. They deserve at least hundreds of millions of dollars a year. The party leadership in the House and Senate also deserve something around $100 million. Average every day congressmen should get $5 million - $10 million per year. That is what they would get on the outside. Also, you should have high salaries to incentivize high quality people coming to congress. Honestly, whats happening to politicians right now is wage theft on a unimaginable scale.
Corruption: this one also triggers me to no end. No! Our politicans are NOT corrupt and not even close! Corruption is when they steal money out of the budget and put it directly in theor pocket or get a kick back for a government deal. None of that is going one (except the rare instances where people have gone to prison). Campaign donations aren't corrupt because its legal and has to be spent on the campaign - its protected by the first amendment! Thank god for the first amendment protecting campaign donations (part of the reason why I love America).
Finally, most of them, except the recent scum populist candidates, are trying to make the country a better place. The standard of living in the country has only gotten better over time, largely in part due to politicians.
I LOVE POLITICIANS.
