The Saudi government and the Saudi royal family doesn't want to impose draconian laws on their people. It's the people who want those laws, especially the older generations. The Saudi royal family just goes along with it because if they didn't they would be violently removed from power by the Saudi people. Having said that, Saudi Arabia is obviously changing. It is becoming more like UAE, especially as the older generations are dying off. It will probably be a lot like Europe in 100 years.
The Saudi government or royal family had nothing to do with 9/11. Like I said in my previous point, its the Saudi people that are radicals, not the government or royal family. The government is trying to prevent radicalism, if anything. Then Saudiphobes will bring up that one rogue guy barely having some interaction with the 9/11 hijackers. The 9/11 commission exonerated him. He was just a diplomat helping citizens overseas - he didn't know they were terrorists.
Saudi Arabia helps the West grow by heavily investing in our businesses. They are making everyone in the West wealthier and have better quality of life.
With regards to Jamal Khashogi. Every country makes mistakes. So one person died in their mistake. When other countries make mistakes, 10,000 people to millions of people die. Every country makes mistakes. They have acknowledged it was a mistake. It won't happen again.
Finally, the Saudi royal family is rich and rich people are just awesome. More reason to love them.
