Populism is repugnant and abhorrent

Left wing and right wing populism has captured the political narrative for almost the last ten years and I hate it. Some of the key views that I abhor include, being against foreign intervention, being a Luddite (being against technological innovation), thinking that politicians are corrupt, being anti-immigration, imposing tariffs on foreign imports, wanting higher taxes, trying to subsidize dying industries, unionism, laborism, and tribalism.

People who are populists are both emotionally incontinent and incapable of independent thought. They just grab at whatever policies make them feel good and fuzzy without thinking about long-term and emergent consequences. Additionally, they often just regurgitate whatever their favorite political influencers are saying.

The fact is we, especially in the United States and especially the poor in the United States, live like millionaires compared to both people in other countries and people in the past. Poor or lower middle income people can live in mansions and live like kings shopping at Walmart and Costco. On top of that, no country on Earth has the freedoms that the United States currently has. Being an American at the current moment in history is better than being anything else at any other point in human history.
